Using Innovative platform that does not cost too much money could help entrepreneurs to create brand equity, he said sharing his own experience of building Infosys from a little known brand to a globally recognised brand.
He said during a survey conducted in 1992 with prospective employees on the company they would like to join, zero per cent opted for Infosys. This dismal picture drove him to take a vow to change it. "We will be number one in India in five years," he had told his colleagues then.
His confidence was met with some scepticism by colleagues who wondered how a small company with less resources could hope to compete with richer and bigger companies, he recalled.
"We will do new unusual things," he had told his colleagues. "We will do what other companies did not do," he said reminiscing over the transformation of a company to a leading global software firm.
"Think of new ideas and think of platforms that do not cost too much and that will get people to talk about you, magazines to write about you," he said, adding communicating unusual ideas would attract people.
Paul said the book was a guide for companies especially startups to establish themselves and grow rapidly on a relatively limited budget. It provides actionable insights and advice on how to steer as well as manage brands.

26 years old world's tallest man of 8ft 1-inch in turkey

Making his first ever trip outside his native Turkey to tour London this week, Sultan Kosen is guaranteed a unique view of the English capital -- at more than eight feet tall he will tower above the crowds.
Crowned the world's tallest man on Thursday, 26-year-old Kosen stands at 8 feet 1 inch (2.46 metres), making him the first person in more than a decade to officially measure over 8 feet, and one of only 10 confirmed cases in history, according to Guinness World Records.
He takes the title from China's Bao Xi Shun who, at 7 feet 8.95 inches, regained the title last year after 8 feet 5.5 inch Ukrainian Leonid Stadnyk's claim was discredited when he refused to be independently measured.
Kosen lists being able to see a long way into the distance as one of the main advantages of his height, as well as helping his mum with domestic jobs such as changing light bulbs and hanging curtains.
But he admits finding shoes to fit his 36.5 cm (14.4 inch) feet -- the world's largest -- or big enough clothes, are a disadvantage.
While being able to find a car that accommodates his size is one of Kosen's hopes after receiving the official title, his ultimate quest is romance.
"My biggest dream is to get married and have children," he told reporters. "I'm looking for love."
Kosen's trip was organised to mark the launch of the Guinness World Records 2010 edition, which also features the world's most pierced man -- 78-year-old former British bank manager John Lynch, who has 241 piercings -- and the world's youngest billionaire, Facebook founder Mark Zuckerman, who made his first billion dollars aged 23 years 296 days.

Osama bin Laden warns Americans in tape

Al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden issued an apparently new audio tape on an Islamist website on Monday, warning the American people over their government's close ties to Israel.
The message, entitled "A statement to the American people", was approximately 10 minutes long and appeared on a website often used by supporters of al Qaeda.
The same website said earlier this month it would soon carry a "present" to Muslims from bin Laden, who is thought to be hiding in the mountainous terrain along the Afghan-Pakistani border, on the occasion of the holy month of Ramadan.
The message comes a few days after the anniversary of the Sept. 11 attacks carried out by al Qaeda operatives in 2001 in which nearly 3,000 people died in the United States.
In his last previous known message in June, bin Laden said U.S. President Barack Obama had planted the seeds of "revenge and hatred" towards the United States in the Muslim world.
Those remarks were issued just before a major speech by Obama who said he sought a "new beginning" between the United States and the Muslim community.

Brother of Osama Bin Laden dies in Saudi Arabia

Riyadh: The family of Osama bin Laden has announced the death of one of the terror mastermind's brothers.
In a full-page notice on Sunday in Al-Riyadh newspaper, the family said Thabet bin Laden passed away and the funeral is scheduled that afternoon in the holy city of Mecca. The notice said he died yesterday but did not give the cause of death or his age.
Thabet bin Laden was one of 54 children born to Mohammed bin Laden, a poor Yemeni immigrant who started the family contracting business in the 1930s that grew into a multimillion dollar construction empire.
The bin Laden family disavowed any links with Osama bin Laden in 1994, when Saudi Arabia stripped him of his citizenship after he called for the overthrow of the royal family.

Man finds python almost twice his size in his toilet

An Australian man will be putting his toilet seat down in the future after discovering a python almost twice his size curled up in the bowl.
Snake wrangler Chris Peberdy was called to a house in rural Virginia near Darwin in far northern Australia after the owner, Erik Rantzau, spotted a 3-metre-long (almost 10 feet) carpet python in his toilet.
"It's not unusual to find snakes of that size in the tropics but you don't find usually them in toilets," Peberdy told Reuters.
"He must have come up through a drain. He was cruising around the house at night and returning to the toilet by day."
Peberdy, who runs Darwin-based snake handling company Snake NT, said the owner lives on a rural property where snakes are respected, so he left the python alone and used a different bathroom until it could be safely removed.
It took the snake wrangler four trips out to the house to catch the carpet python, which is non-venomous and kills its prey by constriction.
"He was so tightly curled into the pipes that I could not move him but eventually he popped out far enough for me to catch him," said Peberdy who is called out to catch up to 1,000 snakes a year.
The captured snake was released into the bush about 2.5 kms (1.5 miles) from the house.
Peberdy had some advice for people living in that area: "Keep the toilet seat down and look before you sit!"

This agent had extolled the benefits of opening a bank account and you were charmed by her claims. So you went ahead and opened the account. But are you aware what are the costs of owning the account?
Have you been made aware of the various costs in owning a bank account? Here are some important aspects you should be aware of:
Non-maintenance of minimum balance: Different banks have different amounts needed to be kept as minimum balance. These amounts range from Rs 1,000 for nationalized banks to over Rs 1 lakh for private banks. If you fail to maintain this minimum balance, then you will end up paying minimum balance charge. This amount can range from Rs. 20 for nationalized banks to Rs 850 for private banks.
Charges for cash withdrawal at 3rd party ATM: Though today, cash withdrawal at 3rd party ATM is free, RBI plans to restrict this free usage to 5 transactions per month, with effect from October 2009. Any transaction over 5 transactions will attract a fine of Rs 20 per transaction.
Account closure charges: Banks also hate to see you go within 6 months. So you will end up paying anywhere from Rs 50 to Rs 200 if you close the account within 6 months.
Certificates: Do you want balance certificates, interest certificates or address confirmation, signature verification or any other document attested by your bank? Then be ready to shell out anywhere from Rs 50 to Rs 250, towards the charges for the same.
Bounced cheque charges: You have issued a cheque or have deposited a cheque. But that cheque bounces. So you end up paying anywhere from Rs 50 to Rs 200 if you bank with nationalized bank or Rs 100 to Rs 500 if your bank is a private bank.
Chequebook charges: Banks offer you a certain number of chequebooks free in a year. If you exceed this limit and you will end up paying for them. The charges range from Rs 50 to Rs 200 per chequebook. So if you use a lot of chequebooks in a year, you will end up making your bank rich.
Duplicate account statement charges: It is mandatory for banks to send you one statement per quarter. Unfortunately, if you end up losing this statement, you will end up having to pay the bank for the duplicate statement. This charge can range between Rs 50 to Rs 500 for each statement.
ATM/Debit card fees: Most private banks charge a fee for issuing ATM/Debit cards. Such fee for the card range from Rs 100 to Rs 500.
Cash transactions at branch: Most banks, particularly private banks encourage you to use the ATM often. To prevent you from performing a lot of cash transactions at the branch, most banks, especially private banks give you a certain number of transactions at a branch free, beyond which you are charged.
Miscellaneous charges: If you think, these are the only charges you'll have to bear, then you are wrong. You will also have to contend with outstation cheque clearance charges, DD/pay order charges, standing instruction charges, dormant account charges, etc.
If you think opening a bank account is free, then you are wrong. A bank account comes with hosts of charges. Unfortunately most of the marketing executives don't highlight the charges. Hence it becomes your responsibility to find out about these charges. It will prevent you from having to pay any unnecessary charges.

Baby born in Australia at 9.09am on 09/09/09

Dhara and Sudish Patel would have no difficulty in remembering the date and time of birth of their daughter who was born in the Australian city of Canberra at 9.09am.on the ninth day of the ninth month of 2009. The new parents said the delivery time of their baby girl was a surprise.
"Her due date was Sep 12," the baby’s mother was quoted as saying by a News channel.
She said the number nine would become part of her baby's life.
"We think it will be her lucky number," she said.

'Halal' cosmetics for Muslim women

For Muslim women who feel they are violating Islam’s teachings by using skin creams with alcohol and pig residues, Layla Mandi has the answer: religiously-correct “halal” cosmetics.
The Canadian makeup artist who converted to Islam is marketing cosmetics called OnePure, which she says have the luxury feel of international brands minus the elements banned under Islamic law. “There are pork derivatives and alcohol in most cosmetics products, so Muslims should really use something else,” Mandi said.
From Islamic banking to alcohol-free hotels, products tagged as halal have become popular among devout Muslims — who pray five times a day and perform other rituals. Under the concept of halal — which means “lawful” in Arabic — pork and its by-products, alcohol and animals not slaughtered according to Koranic procedures are all forbidden.
“Muslims don’t want to go around and pray five times a day having pork residues on their body,” said Mandi, in her early thirties and swathed in a slim black abaya, or cloak, with wisps of blond hair sticking from under her head scarf.
According to Mandi, fatty acids and gelatin used in moisturisers, shampoos, face masks and lipsticks as well as other items are often extracted from pigs. Determined to create a halal product, Mandi brought together a dermatologist and a chemist and told them the deal: cosmetics and skin-care products free of pork and alcohol.

We have pulled economy back from the brink: Obama

US President Barack Obama [ Images ] said the "bold and decisive" steps taken by his administration after inauguration has pulled America's economy back from the brink.
"Thanks to the bold and decisive action we have taken since January, I can stand here with confidence and say that we have pulled this economy back from the brink," Obama told lawmakers in a joint address to the US Congress wherein he passionately called for health care reforms.
"When I spoke here last winter, this nation was facing the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. We were losing an average of 700,000 jobs per month. Credit was frozen. And our financial system was on the verge of collapse," Obama said as he opened his speech.
Admitting that a full and vibrant recovery was still many months away, the President vowed to continue with the steps to strengthen the economy.
"I will not let up until those Americans who seek jobs can find them; until those businesses that seek capital and credit can thrive; until all responsible homeowners can stay in their homes. That is our ultimate goal," Obama said.
And this has been achieved due to support from the US Congress in last several months, and especially those who have taken the difficult votes that have put us on a path to recovery, he added.

Nawaz Sharif met Osama bin Laden five times

Former Pakistan prime minister Nawaz Sharif has met Al Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden five times, says a former official of Pakistan's Inter Services Intelligence (ISI), a claim hotly denied by Sharif's Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N).
Speaking in ARY news programme 'Eleventh Hour', the former ISI official and now chairman Defence of Human Rights organisation Khalid Khwaja claimed he had arranged meetings between bin Laden and Nawaz Sharif on bin Laden's request and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief had held five meetings with the Al Qaeda chief so far.
'I challenge the deniers of such meetings and can present solid evidences in this respect,' Khwaja was quoted as saying by ARY News Wednesday.
He said hopefully Nawaz Sharif would not 'tell a lie' in this regard.
He said he had met the Al Qaeda chief more than a hundred times 'but not after the 9/11 incident'.
However, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz has termed the claims of the head of Defence of Human Rights organisation as baseless.
The claims by Khalid Khwaja regarding the meetings between Nawaz Sharif and Osama bin Laden were 'meaningless', the party's information secretary Ahsan Iqbal told ARY news.

World’s smallest parrot filmed in wild for first time

The world’s smallest parrot, which is not much bigger than an adult person’s thumb, has been filmed in the wild for the first time.
According to a report by BBC News, an expedition team filming in Papua New Guinea for the BBC programme ‘Lost Land of the Volcano’ caught two of the buff-faced pygmy parrots on camera.
Another adult, which weighs less than half an ounce, was also trapped by the expedition team’s bird expert.
On average, buff-faced pygmy parrots (Micropsitta pusio) stand less than 9cm tall and weigh 11.5g (0.41oz).
They are found across the northern lowlands of the island of New Guinea from the west to the southeastern tip, up to an altitude of around 800m.
Males and females look similar, but females have less prominent markings on the head.
The birds have green feathers with yellowish plumage on their underparts; while their cheeks, face, and crown are more buff-coloured, hence their name.
BBC wildlife cameraman Gordon Buchanan first discovered a tiny nest belonging to two parrots deep within pristine rainforest.
The birds nest in termite mounds, using their beaks and claws to dig their way in before laying eggs in the hole created.
Buchanan staked out the nest from within a camouflaged hide, and was rewarded after a long wait when two birds returned.
He filmed the pair at their nest entrance, as the male and female reinforced their bond by rubbing against one another.
Later, another parrot was trapped unharmed by Dr Jack Dumbacher, an ornithologist from the California Academy of Sciences in San Francisco, US, who had accompanied the BBC expedition team.
Buff-faced pygmy parrots do not eat fruit and nuts but lichen and fungi.
However, so little is still known about their dietary habits that it has proved difficult to rear the birds in captivity.

Gandhi is his real hero, Obama tells US school kids

US President Barack Obama has said given a chance he would like to have dinner with Mahatma Gandhi, whom he considered a real hero.
Obama expressed his desire in response to a question from a student Lilly during his discussion with 9th graders at Wakefield High School in Arlington Virginia where he accompanied with the Education Secretary gave a national speech welcoming students back to school.
Obama called for students to take responsibility and to learn from their failures so that they succeed in the end.
"Hi. I'm Lilly. And if you could have dinner with anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?," Obama was asked by one of the students.
"Dinner with anyone dead or alive? Well, you know, dead or alive, that's a pretty big list," Obama responded amidst laughter. The next moment he was serious.
"You know, I think that it might be Gandhi, who is a real hero of mine," Obama said. "Now, it would probably be a really small meal because he didn't eat a lot," he said amidst laughter. But Mahatma Gandhi is someone who has inspired people across the world for the past several generations, he said.
Terming the iconic figure as the source of inspiration for many, Obama said "He (Mahatma Gandhi) is somebody whom I find a lot of inspiration in. He inspired Dr King (Martin Luther), so if it hadn't been for the non-violent movement in India, you might not have seen the same non-violent movement for civil rights here in the United States." said.
"What was interesting was that he ended up doing so much and changing the world just by the power of his ethics, by his ability to change how people saw each other and saw themselves -- and help people who thought they had no power realise that they had power, and then help people who had a lot of power realise that if all they're doing is oppressing people, then that's not a really good exercise of power," Obama said.
Expressing his belief in the way of change proposed by Gandhi, the President said, "I am always interested in people who are able to bring about change, not through violence, not through money, but through the force of their personality and their ethical and moral stances. That is somebody that I would love to sit down and talk to," said Obama.
Mahatma Gandhi has always been a source of inspiration for this first African-American President of the United States of America.
"In my life, I have always looked to Mahatma Gandhi as an inspiration, because he embodies the kind of transformational change that can be made when ordinary people come together to do extraordinary things," he wrote in the ethnic India Abroad newspaper last year.
"That is why his portrait hangs in my Senate office; to remind me that real results will not just come from Washington, they will come from the people," Obama said.

Dubai to build world''s tallest residential tower

After a brief lull, Dubai is back to its biggest and tallest ways and once again it is a building that is set to make the statement. As a step in this direction, Trident International Holdings has awarded a USD 400 million contract to Arabian Construct ion Company (ACC) to build the world''s tallest residential tower the ''Pentominium'' in Dubai Marina.
According to the developer, the 124 floor Pentominium "whose name is derived from two words: penthouse and condominium" will be one of the world''s tallest man-made structures and is projected to be the second-tallest building in the world after Burj Dubai. Each apartment in the 618 metres tower will consist of either half a floor, or an entire floor.
The total built-up area will be 170,000 square metres and the construction duration is expected to take 48 months, a company statement released yesterday said. The Pentominium will be the tallest all-residential building in the world upon completion and it currently has the highest projected height of any residential building under construction, according to Aedas, the project designers.

The world's first Islamic search engine

Across the world, Muslims can now safely surf the Internet without having to face the embarrassment of bumping into explicit or sexual content.
AZS Media Group, a Dutch company on September 1 launched the world's first Islamic search engine -- ImHalal.com -- that differentiates what material is 'halal' (allowed) and what is 'haram' (forbidden) in Islam.
"We got the idea to develop ImHalal.com about nine months ago," says Reza Abdolali Zadeh Sardeha, who is the chief executive officer of ImHalal.com and founder of the Amsterdam-based AZS Media Group, in an email interaction with rediff.com.
"In a group of four, we were talking about search engines like Google and that once in a while we accidentally bumped into explicit material. We then brainstormed and about seven months ago, we began the actual development of the search engine. Seven months later the search engine was done," adds 20-year-old Sardeha, an Iranian-Kuwaiti student who was five when his family settled down in The Netherlands.
The advice of Islamic scholars too was taken into account while building the search engine.
This is how the search on ImHalal.com works: The search engine only fetches results that are flagged as to be halal.
The search engine uses various techniques to determine which results fetched are supposed to be halal or haram. Once a user comes in contact with content of explicit nature, the search engine will return a negative search advice.
When you look for something through the ImHalal.com search engine, you get results like on any other search site. But if your key words are a part of the 'danger list' specified by the developers of ImHalal.com, then your search gets a rating of one or two on the 'haram scale'. The message that you see is: 'Oops! Your search inquiry has a Haram level of 2 out of 3. This means that the results fetched by ImHalal.com could be haram!'
As a user you can still decide to go through with the risk and click to see the results.

Malaysian govt clears token caning of Muslim model

The Malaysian government has "cleared" the token caning of a Muslim women model if the Shariah court decides to enforce the sentence on her for drinking beer in public, forbidden by Islam.Malaysia's Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein gave the nod to the Prisons Department to cane 32-year-old Kartika Sari Dewi Shukarno.
Kartika was fined Rs 60,000 and ordered to be whipped six times for drinking beer in a hotel in Cherating last year. Her sentence has been deferred until after Ramzan Hishammuddin said the prison department officials had demonstrated how the part-time model and mother of two would be caned.
He said the woman office tapped the back of a chair with the cane while demonstrating to him.
"There was little force involved and it was not going to inflict pain, not even like the caning carried out in schools in those days.”
"I am now satisfied that the caning can be carried out by the department if the court decides to proceed and enforce the sentence," he told a local daily here.
Hishammuddin had recently said the Ministry needed to study the proper procedures before caning the woman according to Shariah law, adding that he would not allow the department to execute the caning sentence if it did not have the knowledge and expertise to do it.
Several parties, such as the Bar Council, have called for the sentence to be annulled. Hishammuddin said that although he was now satisfied that the department was able to conduct the caning, he still felt it had no experience to do so.
"This is because the woman (Kartika) will be the first to be caned (under Shariah laws applicable to Muslims). Four men who have received caning sentences by the Shariah Court are appealing their sentences," he said.
On the merits of Kartika's caning sentence, the minister said he had told the department not to get embroiled in this.
"That is not their purview. It is the judicial process which decides that. If the caning sentence is to be imposed, it is their duty to carry it out fairly," the Star quoted him as saying.

UAE plane carrying arms detained at Kolkata airport

An aircraft belonging to the United Arab Emirates Air Force was found carrying a large cache of arms and ammunition and detained along with its nine crew members here last night.
The plane, bound for Hanyang in Chinafrom Abu Dhabi, landed at the NSC Bose International airport here for refuelling last night.
Airport sources said that while customary checking of the plane by customs officials it was found that a large cache of arms and ammunition were stockpiled inside the flight.
The airport authority of India was informed and as the plane's crew did not inform the authorities here that the aircraft was carrying arms, its return flight order was cancelled and nine crew members were detained.
Late in the night, a meeting was held with the airport authorities, customs officials, senior Air Force officers and the UAE crew about the entire matter.
Finally, permission was granted to the plane to resume its flight this morning, sources said.

Yash Chopra named top Asian filmmaker of the year

Influential Bollywood director and producer Yash Chopra will be honoured as filmmaker of the year
at one of Asia's biggest film events, South Korea's Pusan International Film Festival, organisers
said on Thursday.
Chopra will receive the Asian Filmmaker of the Year award, considered one of the top cinema
honours in Asia, during the festival that runs from October 8 to 16 in the South Korean southern
port city.
"As the most influential producer and director in India over decades, Chopra has made remarkable
contributions to establish Bollywood cinema on the global stage," the organisers said in a
statement.
The festival will screen several films he directed or produced, including the 1991 movie "Lamhe",
also known as "Moments."
Chopra is the founder of Yash Raj Films, described by festival organisers as India's largest film
production company.
Previous winners of the award have included Hong Kong actor and producer Andy Lau and the late
Taiwanese director Edward Yang

rivalry.
While Anil has slipped 30 places down in the list of the world's 100 most powerful people, Mukesh
has made an exit from the list.
Ranked 97th in the latest edition of the annual ranking compiled by British fashion magazine
Vanity Fair, Anil is the only Indian in the list, which is topped by financial services behemoth
Goldman Sachs CEO Lloyd Blankfein.
Anil was ranked at 67th position jointly with Mukesh in the previous year's list.
The current list, described as 'The New Establishment 2009' by the magazine, also figures names
like Apple's iconic chief Steve Jobs and legendary investor Warren Buffett and these 100 people
have been described as the world's most powerful in today's information age.
"Ambani was the biggest loser when Forbes published its annual wealth ranking in March: his
fortune fell by $32 billion, to $10 billion. But that still left him with plenty of cash to close
a Bollywood-meets-Hollywood deal with Steven Spielberg to make a $500 million investment in
DreamWorks (along with the rights to distribute its films in India)," Vanity Fair said about
Anil.

TATA Nano's Pantnagar plant to hit full capacity soon

Tata Motors (TATAMOTORS.BO : 517.85 +28.2) on Monday said the company will be hitting full production capacity at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand for Nano in the coming months. The company, meanwhile, is preparing to start test production of the car from its new mother plant in Sanand, Gujarat, by January-February 2010. The commercial production of the Nano from Sanand is expected to start around the same period. The plant will have an annual capacity of 3,50,000 units. This is a delay by a couple of months, if vendors have to be believed. Earlier, according to the vendors supplying for the Nano, the test production at Sanand was supposed to commence by October this year followed by commercial production early next year.
"We should be hitting the full capacity at Pantnagar by next month or so," said Ravi Kant, vice-chairman of the company. He added that the Pantnagar plant has an annual capacity of 2,50,000 units, of which the company had kept 50,000 for the Nano.
Asked what the current production level at Pantnagar is, PM Telang, managing director, Tata Motors, said, "At present, we are producing 2,500 to 3,000 Nano cars per month from Pantnagar, which will be taken to 4,000 units per month soon."
In July, the company began delivery of the Nano and delivered 2,475 cars. On cancellations, Rajiv Dube, president-passenger vehicles division, Tata Motors, said, "There have been cancellations but there is nothing to worry about." However, when contacted, a renowned dealer in Mumbai said, "People who will get delivery of the car by 2013 have come ahead to cancel. There are cancellations close to 40%."
Talking on the Singur land, the earlier site for the mother plant of Nano and the possible interest of a third party in the land as mentioned by Ratan Tata at the annual general meeting of the company, Kant said, "We are in talks with the West Bengal government and are waiting for reply. The Dead Sea is among 14 finalists in a global internet vote next year to choose the 7 wonders of the natural world, organisers said on Tuesday.
The famously salty lake at the lowest point in the world is in the running for a place alongside spectacular natural phenomena such as the Amazon River, the Galapagos Islands, the Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef.
Others include Venezuela's Angel Falls, Canada's Bay of Fundy, the Maldives islands, Italy's Vesuvius volcano, Halong Bay in Vietnam, Iguazu Falls on the border between Brazil and Argentina, Lebanon's Jeita Grotto, Indonesia's Komodo national park and the Puerto Princesa underground river in the Philippines.
The Dead Sea is shared by Israel, Jordan and the occupied West Bank. It was almost eliminated from the contest (www.new7wonders.com) earlier this year when Middle East politics blocked their required cooperation.
